#1- What they are not telling us/you about the Mexican migrant caravans.
Illegal aliens have always been slipping in and out of the states through the Mexican border but up to a year ago they were always individual, sporadic efforts. These so called “caravans” are a very new thing. They are not organic or self-organizing. Like any cohesive effort they necessarily need advanced planning, leader(s), logistics, advance people, etc., etc. So who is providing the supply lines, logistics, the dough, and to what purpose?
#2- Tens of thousands of educated and cultured Venezuelans are pouring into much less advanced adjacent Latin countries, like Paraguay Bolivia and Ecuador.
In effect it’s a kind of reverse brain- drain. Though it does have some bad and scary secondary effects. Bad boys do slip through. Sound familiar?
#3- Gringos wonder why in the hell 4 Latin countries- Panama, Belize, El Salvador and Ecuador- have abandoned their own funny money and switched to US dollar funny money.
It seems strange when visiting. It’s a drastic move that flies in the face of a country’s nationalism, sovereignity and patrimony. So then are they US puppets? What about countries like Ecuador, who are outwardly socialist and not warm to Uncle Sam’s hegemonic tactics? Today we have the real dope on the subject…
#4- A Mexican oil pipeline thief can be either a narco or the nice guy next door.
They are well tolerated and here’s what you didn’t know about them.
#5- The new multi-billion dollar US embassy in Guatemala is under construction on 9.5 acres!
That’s more than double the size of the old gigantic existing embassy which is/was 4 stories and a city block square. Oh and did you know the top 3 floors have always been off limits to US citizens? Can you say “alphabet agencies”? The really bad news is that there are similar money pit monstrosities in 150 foreign country capitals worldwide. So, does that piss you off yet?

Descriptions- EXPAT FILES SHOW #824 SUN, JAN 20 (01-20-2019):
#1- The 5 ways Medical Tourism websites and companies gouge gringos and expats:
Today we talk about the cost of Medical Tourism and go through some actually numbers in detail. If you live in Latin America and analyze what these outfits offer, it does not look like a good deal at all and is actually a racket. Yes, to a first world person’s mind it represents a substantial savings, but you can actually cut average medical tourism costs by an additional 50% and in this segment you’ll find out how.
#2- What ever happened to Airport Etiquette?
We all know how the US govt and TSA have ruined the whole airport travel experience. That said, today we mention a few of the more common but unspoken stressors that are routinely injected into the mix that make airport travel even worse.
#3- There are a few simple clothing items gringos and expats absolutely need to bring in their carry-on luggage, but they almost never do:
You won’t know till you need them…
#4- Why I will never move to Colombia:
Don’t believe all that happy good news that International Living is saying about Colombia, especially Medellin. Things are really taking a turn for the worse in many many areas. Today we discuss some critically important things you need to know about Colombia that I.L. and other blogsters and pundits don’t want to touch on..

#1- Internet data packages for the Latin American common masses are constantly changing and getting faster, cheaper and more convenient:
Find out what IT packages and services are masses are using and you should sign up for them too..
#2- A Latin perspective on the USA Govt shutdown:
The dirty little secret is… that if a Latin govt were to have had a general shutdown no one would notice, except for the fact that the traffic will most probably flow much better and faster.
#3- The problem with bringing simple power tools (like your B&D cordless drill) down to Latin America:
Its a big problem- if you don’t know the TSA and Airline rules about carrying common rechargeable Lithium ion batteries (like in your electric toothbrush or vibrator or drill) TSA will likely take the big expensive stuff from you at the airport and you’ll never see it again.
#4- What Latin taxi drivers know that you don’t:
He’s the go to guy if you have just landed in a Latin country and want to know the skinny on the local, political, social and internet connectivity climate. He’ll be happy tell you in an instant.
#5- What happens when Latin unions go on strike?
#6-What do Latino working class people think about socialism?
It all seems to depend on if they personally have friends or relatives who have lived in Cuba or Venezuela.
#7- Proper airplane/airport etiquette and the prevalence of stinky and/or repulsive passengers

#1- Amazing Latin American Healthcare full coverage insurance plans are available for Gringos and Expats- with zero to $50 deductible- for a mere $50 to $200 a month:
Yes, it seems unbelievable but are they too good to be true?
#2- The pitfalls of so called “Medical Tourism”- what you didn’t know and what no one wants to tell you.
Sure, you can save bundle if you pop down to Latin America to have your belly fat sucked out, have dental work done or kidney stone or gall bladder surgery. But guess what? If you make the arrangements through an online medical tourism outfit (there are dozens of such sites.. and in English too), you will pay about TWICE what the local Latinos will pay for the identical service or treatment- at the very same clinics and hospitals and from the very same doctors. Still, for a gringo the price is right and it will look like a great deal but remember, if you come down and do the legwork yourself (and speak Spanish or know someone who does) you can save another 50% off the internet derived “medical tourism” listed fees and not compromise yourself in any way…
#3- Is Big Brother watching its citizens in Latin America too?
How it is possible that just two cities in Bolivia have 1600 Chinese made ultra-high-tech surveillance cameras that list out at $8000 a piece! Meanwhile, the average Bolivian has no hot running water and the vast majority of towns and cities have no adequate sewage disposal systems or functional water treatment plants (duh?). Turns out the Chinese are worming their way into Latin American governments and industries by giving out and loaning extremely high-tech surveillance equipment (and more) to certain broke and susceptible Latin Governments. The Chinese companies do it by giving the lard-ass Latino bureau-rats offers they just can’t refuse…

#1- Using Cryptocurrency in Latin America- Jan 1, 2019 update
The calm before the storm... today's first a 'boots on the ground' story
#2- First World Healthcare at Third World prices- Jan 1, 2019 update
The Canada and UK national healthcare systems exposed. The subject of today’s “boots on the ground story”
#3- What about those Crazy Latino and Latina proper names that would certainly get a kid an ass – whopping up in the states?
Nick names abound in Latin America. That’s the culture. Most are endearing or descriptive and in no way an insult. However, there is no shortage of horrible and confusing birth names given to kids in Latin America too. Periodically you will meet a person who has been burdened with such a moniker and you won’t believe a parent would do that to a kid. Stranger yet, when you meet a person with a mind-blowing name it will almost always be a result of uneducated parents trying to inject a favorite English word or two into a kid’s birth certificate- generally with laughable or embarrassing results (to us gringos anyway who know better)
