The Expat Files: Living in Latin America A guide to moving to Latin America, finding work, and settling in.

June 24, 2019

#1- Mexico is a disaster- here’s the final devastating word on why Mexico is a very very bad place for your “Plan B” destination:

Today we have a dire warning from an Expat Files listener (a professional USA law enforcement agent in charge of training Mexican cops and military). He’s been operating under a US contract in Mexico, training Mexican law enforcement agents for the past 3 years. WARNING! If what he has to say here doesn’t convince you to stay far far away from Mexico, then you are either delusional or a lost cause.

#2- The confessions of a “Timeshare” salesman:

Just when we thought timeshares had slipped into the toilet bowl of bad ideas, a new round of timeshare seminars (in Spanish) have risen from the ashes to accommodate the latest breed of incompletely educated middle-class Latino suckers. They’re scrambling to max out their credit cards and take the bait. In this “boots on the ground” story, a veteran timeshare salesman spews real dirt on the subject.

#3- Last chance to sign up for Johnny Mueller’s July 2019 “Expat Insider Seminar”:

The week-long event will be in Central America from Saturday, July 6th through Thursday, July 11th. Just go to: www.thenewexpat.com and click on the “seminar” link.

#4- What will you do when the Lights go out?

Latin Americans are used to periodic power outages, yet almost none has a backup gas or diesel generator, much less a backup solar power setup.

Whether the power fails for two minutes or two hours, Latin life goes on, doesn’t skip a beat. Gringos however (especially newbees) tend to go ballistic during power failures. That’s why you need a small gas generator, better yet, a portable solar backup unit…

#5- US Border control databases are being hacked again and again...

When crossing US borders you are constantly filmed, photographed and put in various US Govt databases ... and those US border control checkpoints (your data and photos) are constantly being hacked. That means your party pix and most excellent bathroom bowel movement pix posted on Fakebook, Instacrap and Twaddle will be joined on the cloud by your border checkpoint videos and photos too, gringo.
