Don’t fret guys, in Latin America it’s a steady job.

It can be a big hazard while driving and persistent during the rainy season –especially at night!

Descriptions- EXPAT FILES SHOW #833 FRI, FEB 22 (02-22-2019):

#1- Body shaming and “man talk” in Latin America

#2- Managing Bugs, Snakes and Cucarachas (the cyborgs of insects)

Man-sized bugs and snakes are on every new green expat’s mind - and especially on the minds of female expats. Yes, creatures are an undeniable reality but there are some very easy ways to keep them at bay. Hint: much of it depends on where you choose to live out your “Plan B”. If you live at sea level, on the coast or near water they will be much more a part of your life than if you live in the altiplano.

How much are we insulated from all that by living down here? Will we be ok or should we update our wills and testaments?

#1- A Different Kind of “Plan B’

Today we discuss the nomadic roaming “Plan B” option. Some expat wannabes would like nothing better than to move from place to place every few weeks or months, Latin country to Latin country at will. Though it might sound like a typical backpacker’s usual plan, it’s really not. Instead, you might say it more like an “upscale” backpacker’s dream and what might happen if a dyed-in-the-wool backpacker suddenly won the lottery- but never lost his wanderlust. How would a plan like that work, moving around all the time? Could you or would you burn out on travel? Is it even feasible to continuously move on? Sounds like a nice idea for a single person, for a while maybe, or not. Today we point out the many pros and cons, and why you must be careful of what you wish for…

#2- Banking Across Borders in Latin America:

What happens if you have a Latin Bank account or two and you end up travelling or moving to another Latin country? Will that screw up or add some difficulty to your cash and funds situation? Should you get another local bank account at your new digs? Here’s the skinny on that situation...

#3- Latin American Healthcare Insurance Update:

Some tips and tricks on how to find the best plans and coverage at the lowest possible prices

#4- Retirement ain’t what it’s cracked up to be:

After a while often becomes a job in itself. People report it’s a pain trying to fight boredom with so much time on your hands- If you don’t have fulfilling hobbies. There are both empty and fulfilling hobbies ya know. That’s why so many expats eventually find a cool and fun business niche without even trying. New and fun niches fill the gaps…

Descriptions- EXPAT FILES SHOW #831 FRI, FEB 15 (02-15-2019):

#1- We all have a Doppelganger somewhere in the world, have you met yours?

The more you travel the more chance you have to meet people that think they know you, but really don’t. Instead somehow, somewhere, they have met your doppelganger. No, this is not Woo Woo!

#2- The Black American “Plan B” experience in Latin America- PART 2:

Is their experience different than their white gringo counterparts? Today we have another series of ”boots on the ground” stories about Black gringos living with a “Plan B” in Latin America

#3- What Latin kids want- the sad truth about the goals and ideas of Latin American University students:

Recent polls and university enrollment data indicate Latin students vastly prefer to have careers in Government than in the private sector. Yes, unfortunately they seem to be just as soft headed as USA university students…

#4- The “Blancamiento” of Brazil- something that no one talks about:

Did you know that long ago, the (white elite) government of Brazil actually funded the importation of 4 million white Europeans because they felt their society was too Black? The program was called “Blancamiento” and Brazil wasn’t the only Latin country that was officially on board.

#5- A strange but very interesting discussion about the mythical African country of Wakanda (from the Black Panther movie) and how it somehow relates to the Latin American migration issue

#6- Common Law Marriage in Latin America:

What gringos, gringas and expats definitely need to know and be aware if they start living with a Latin person

#7- It’s a fact that nearly every Latin person you meet will tell you they like and admire ex-president Obama, but why?

Nope, they can never tell you what he actually did to deserve their praise but that doesn’t seem to matter. Wow, talk about an incomplete education.. but is it any different with his admirers in the USA?

#1- I get that you love your vehicle and want it to accompany you to Latin America:

To drive the Ferrari or VW down, or sell it? That is the question.

#2- The true cost of bringing your favorite vehicle to Latin America:

Yes, the shipping, import duties and sales taxes will gouge you but there are other things to consider.

#3- Ten slick tricks smart gringos use to ship and/or drive a vehicle to Latin America:

You just might cut the costs by thousands.

#4- Ten important considerations to buying and/or selling a car in Latin America

#5- Five ways Latin American “used car” dealers can and probably will scam you;

You know what they say about used car dealers. Unfortunately they are all blood brothers with the same disease. Politics is the only other career that’s even less trustworthy

#6- There are times when the used car you’re thinking of purchasing will lie to you:

Today we talk about “Idiots” who mess with “idiot” lights

#7- Are Latin American bank Credit and Debit cards safe?

Yes you should definitely have one or two, but how and when you should use them is another thing.

#1- When your “Plan B” changes or goes sour:

One of the biggest dangers to a present or future “Plan B” destination is so called “good publicity”. Mainstream publicity of certain excellent destinations is becoming a big problem and most often the kiss of death for a particular previously off-the-radar paradise. It stands to reason that the more good or positive publicity an expat destination receives the more likely it will be overrun by gringos and expats. Unfortunately newbees eventually arrive in droves turning it into something like what they left the states for in the first place.

#2- Gringos making money in Latin America - Another look at gringos and expats who need or want to work once they land in their new Latin country

#3 The problem with filing US taxes while living in Latin America-

Is it a problem? DYK that if your sole source of income is a Social Security check (or direct bank deposit of SS) you DO NOT have to file US taxes at all…

#4- Junk cars and vehicle air pollution in Latin America- a quick, easy, cheap and logical solution to put an end to the nasty problem.

The solution is so logical however, that we can expect no Latin Government to ever implement it

#5- Things you must know if you are thinking about driving a car or truck from the USA to Central America

#6- Some common and disturbing hygiene issues that pervade Latin America, and that you can never change

#7- Recreational drugs and “do gooders” in Latin America

#1- THE LATIN PIRATE ECONOMY

Pirate and Knock-Off Goods in Latin America- Today we present an updated comprehensive guide to everything you wanted to know about the counterfeit goods market in a land where it’s all about the price and almost no one really cares about copyrights, licensing or intellectual property rights.

Latin America is the land of knock-off goods. With some fake products making up as much as 50% of a given market. You’d be amazed how many things are counterfeited, faked and/or knocked off. The list includes toys, clothes, shoes, purses, luggage, cosmetics, software, movies, media, video games, medicines, tools, IT services, even pet food, human food and seeds!

#2- Should gringos and expats buy pirated or knock-off products or NOT?

#3 Clones and fakes and the Panama/Chinese connection.

#4- Some Latin Countries specialize in producing certain knock-offs- and today we have the list….

#5- Logistically, certain Latin countries have more of a “wild west” free and open attitude concerning buying and producing faked/cloned products..

#6- What about local and international law enforcement and the legal aspects of the pirate economy. What are authorities doing about it?

February 1, 2019

Descriptions- EXPAT FILES SHOW #827 FRI, FEB 01 (02-01-2019):

#1- A day in the Life a “wage slave hostage” Cuban doctor:

It’s a funny thing. Ever since Cuba started sending thousands of selfless medial doctors to far flung regions of Latin America and the 3rd world, most 1st world people have softened their positions a bit on the Cuban regime. And why not? Goods deed like that would seem incongruous and contrary to what we imagine to be a brutal, totalitarian, dictatorial regime. Even now, Americans at dinner parties wonder how a socialist country with people making on average $50 a month can send such numbers of professional “do good” emissaries abroad. Is it for real- a truly a great thing or possibly the greatest PR stunt the Castro brothers have ever pulled?

Meanwhile, all is not well in paradise as Brazil’s new president fires (kicks out) all 11,000 Cuban doctors working in his country.

#2- How safe are Latin Banks?

Another “boots on the ground” story.

#3- Traveling with repulsive people- Part 2

#4- What about living, working, playing and/or doing business in Chile?
