There are lots of unscrupulous Gringos just waiting for the chance to get at your wallet. Beware of “golden” once in a lifetime investment opportunities. Most of them are offered up by gringo (not Latin) scammers who have been on the tourist trail honing their pitches. They know all too well that newbee gringos are ripe for the picking. So be on guard.
#3-Those pesky Police and FBI good conduct reports: What you need to know
#4-Observations about native Gringos who marry second generation Latinas that they have met up in the states: Its a fairly common match these days, the lady was born a US citizen but because her parents were immigrants from Latin America she is 100% bilingual and he’s not. That’s the subject of today’s “boots on the ground” story

Descriptions- EXPAT FILES SHOW #783 SUN, AUG 19- (08-19-2018):
#1-Revisting Roatan, Honduras:
An expat gringo finds a unique business niche nearby… the local Latinos don’t get it, but it’s an idea whose time has come.
#2- Details, Details: why practically every Latin construction and/or remodeling project never quite makes the grade (the first world grade).
Why do so many Latin remodeling “after” pictures look as bad as the “before“ pictures?
#3-The dirty truth about "selective" power outages in Latin America:
Truth be told, if you happen to live in a high-end upper-middle class neighborhood or suburb (called colonias down here) chances are you will never experience power outages of any annoying duration- except possibly during extreme weather. Meanwhile the poor and average Latino neighborhoods directly adjacent to a wealthier “colonias” can often experience quite frequent power outages. What’s up with that?
#4-Why, in spite of the so called “gringo advantage” some gringo businesses do fail
#5 Wildfire destruction in Latin America:
Yes they do exist, but it’s mostly local farmers who do their own controlled burns. As for fires and destruction by fire in general, most are cause by the amazingly inappropriate overuse of fireworks- which are completely legal in Latin America.
BTW- if you’re wondering about the premiums for fire insurance down here… no one knows, because nobody knows anyone who actually has that kind of coverage, or any kind of homeowner’s umbrella coverage for that matter.

The bottom line is, even though these big, super-expensive, reinforced and heavily guarded behemoths can be found most foreign capital cities, the embassy slugs are NOT actually there to help you- nope not your average US citizen. It’s the subject of today’s first “boots on the ground” story.
#2- Congrats gringo! You finally have your permanent residency in a Latin country. Now what?
Today we discuss the next logical thing to do- the step by step process of moving forward toward your new Latin country passport and nationality- the so-called 2nd Flag! What paperwork and documentation will you need and what is not necessary? What stuff do you need to get from Big Brother land (if any)?
#3-Long time listeners know about that great foreign earned income federal tax break of over $100K per year that many US residents in foreign countries get:
Yes, you automatically get it if you qualify as a resident overseas and meet certain requirements. But DYK some US states will still make you pay state tax on all foreign income even if you don’t step foot in your old corrupt state anymore? Talk about low-down, dirty and ludicrous…
#4-Today we discuss a cheap, dirty and ultra-low tech business niche an astute gringo figured out on his own. He’s cleaning up with it too.
Believe me, I mean literally cleaning up!
